My collection has been built up over the last five years. At first I bought simply what I liked knowing very little about what was considered good or collectible. Due to space constraints I quickly have become much more picky about what I buy. The things I look for are as follows:
- I must like the object and be able to live with it at home. I tend to stick to more traditional vase and bowl forms. You will not find any Richard Slee here!
- The object in question must be an outstanding or unique example by the artist in question.
- The artist must be established and preferably have items in two or more recognized collections such as the V&A or the Sainsbury collection.
- I generally prefer items in monochromatic colors as I am slightly colorblind and hence don’t really trust my judgment with bright colored objects.
All my items are rotated around my home regularly to give me different perspectives and lights with which to view each. Its surprising how often I find a different view of an object I thought I knew well.
I do occasionally sell items either to raise cash for new purchases or to save some valuable living space as I don’t want to live in a museum!
